ASSOCIATION FOR THE ADVANCEMENT OF SOCIAL WORK Please Join Us As We Welcome Groups with Younger Adolescents: Integrating Our Knowledge Professor Smith will identify crucial developmental understandings about this unique age group (“tweens” and younger adolescents) while offering practical suggestions for effective group practice. Based on several complementary theoretical frameworks, the practice model introduced will include a review of behaviors and group actions likely to be encountered, essential tasks or skills the group worker will likely employ, as well as ideas for helpful activities and purposeful programs. Particular emphasis will be paid to the clinical importance of well-planned and skillfully managed endings for this age group, as well as the importance of facilitating members' connection (or re-membering) with their communities, families, and peer/affiliation networks. SATURDAY, JANUARY 29, 2005 Location: Barry University School of Social Work
